Santa Monica's first Youth Wellbeing Report Card is here

How are children in Santa Monica doing? What can we do to help them thrive? These are the questions that Santa Monica's inter-agency Cradle to Career workgroup sought to answer by creating the community's first Youth Wellbeing Report Card.

The baseline assessment looks at 4 key areas that contribute to a person's wellbeing: physical development, learning, mental health, and social skills. On the surface, children in Santa Monica are doing well overall. A deeper look into the findings reveals some startling areas of concern, including:

  • Only one-third of children entering kindergarten are very ready for school.
  • Nearly a third of older youth report symptoms of depression.
  • Alcohol use among older youth is higher than the statewide average.

The report card will help smC2C partners form action plans to address priority areas of concern.
